I reached up and switched off the little shaft of light on my plane seat. As my eyes adjusted to the dim, I noticed something in my peripheral. I looked out the oval window, peering into the 2am sky.
Beauty. Utter beauty. Beyond the plane’s wings was the entire universe before me. Billions of stars lit the dome forming around the plane, with lines almost visibly connecting each of them. I knew what it was. It was Him, putting His final touches on the one-week trip that changed my view of the world, as if I’d been given a new pair of eyes. I remembered that midnight at the grasslands of Mount Pulag and how I had missed the opportunity of seeing the stars (it was too cold to go out our tents!). This was even better. I checked behind and around me, realizing I was the only one awake. It was just me and Him. A special love. His way of showing me the world He created. I knew it wouldn’t work but I took out my phone to take a shot – total blackness. Of course. ‘For your eyes only. Just you and Me.’ As it should be.
Shooting stars. Lightning strikes in the distant horizon. The night sky was unbelievably clear and vast. There was so much depth, looking into another world. The ultimate art installation. He knows each of the stars by name – the stars before me were impossible to count. Silver glitter tossed into the air, holding their rightful place among each other. How great are you God. You are too incredible to fathom. Yet in your glory, your majestic power and strength that has created an entire universe, You still see me, know me and hold me in Your mighty loving hand.

A lot of us seek adventure and new scenery. While we ascend mountains and swim seas and gaze at stars, I hope we see the beauty God has scattered like dust on every surface of the earth. To stand in awe of the Creator himself. The sky is His blank canvas, every sunrise and sunset proof of His creativity.
And yet this God whose pasttime is making stars, sees us and knows us inside and out, our past, present and future – all our days prepared before we had even lived one day. He loves us despite our flaws and He wants us. It’s an overwhelming love!
Let my life be Your blank canvas.
“Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy.”
– Psalm 98:7-8
“Though we are but tiny and frail, we are marked by the Creator. You are a miracle. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. And the God of the heavens is the one who fashioned you together. He knows your name. And He made a promise for those who trust in Him that He will carry, hold them all in His hands all the days of their lives.”
“Falling” by Every Nation Music, which is a part of their latest project: Wings EP, is a song that perfectly encapsulates what it’s like to be in God’s presence, too wonderful to comprehend. A few weeks ago at the Ignite Conference, I stood at the back to get a better view of the 15,000 passionate young people from all over Asia – the next generation of leaders – gathered in the Araneta dome. And it was such a sight seeing all of them, hands raised, as they sang this song, in response to the overwhelming Love that filled the coliseum.
